Defender rear door lock and handle assembly
This Defender rear door lock and handle assembly replaces the anti-burst latch and outer handle on non-central-locking swing-away rear doors. It is the right part to use where the rear door latch is worn, the handle action feels loose, or the door no longer closes cleanly against the striker.
FQJ103840 fits Defender rear doors in the EA314174 to 1A622423 fitment range. It is for the earlier rod-operated rear door lock arrangement without central locking, so check your door type before ordering if your vehicle is around the changeover period.
The same latch assembly can also be used on the right-hand front door where the vehicle has lift-up exterior handles, replacing earlier latch 395037.
If the door still rattles after replacing the latch, also check the rear door hinges, striker position and door condition. The latch can only work properly if the door is supported correctly and closes squarely into the striker.
If your lock barrels are worn, damaged or no longer match the same key, see the MTC6504 Defender lock barrel set. For more related lock and anti-theft parts, see our Defender security parts.

Twinwoods 4x4 ships Land Rover parts across the UK and around the world. We regularly send parts overseas and use trusted tracked courier services so UK and international customers can order with confidence.
Standard UK shipments are normally sent with DPD. UK orders containing oils or fluids are normally sent with DHL where required, because some carriers restrict liquid shipments.
Worldwide delivery is available through DPD and DHL Express, depending on the destination, parcel size, weight and available courier services. Add the parts you need to your basket, enter your delivery address, and the checkout will show the available delivery options and prices before payment.
Free mainland UK postage and packaging is available on eligible orders over £99, subject to our delivery terms and conditions.

- Return carriage and safe packing are your responsibility for change-of-mind returns.
- Managed UK returns: where suitable, we can provide a cost-effective, hassle-free tracked return service with straightforward drop-off, proof of handover and tracking linked to your return. The cost will be advised before it is arranged and may be deducted from your refund.
- Change-of-mind returns must be returned complete, in their original packaging and in resaleable condition. Returned goods must be the same goods supplied by us and complete with all components, accessories and any free or promotional items supplied with them.

- Faulty, damaged or incorrectly described? Contact us first. We will advise the appropriate return method and will normally provide a prepaid return service or cover reasonable agreed return costs.
Returns – quick FAQs
How long do I have to return an item?
Who pays return carriage?
What condition must a change-of-mind return be in?
Fitting, attempted fitting, contamination, damage, missing packaging or excessive handling can substantially reduce the value of the goods and may result in a corresponding reduction to your refund.
Can I fit a part and then return it?
Once a part has been fitted or an attempt has been made to fit it, it may be marked, contaminated, damaged or otherwise unsuitable for resale as a new part. We do not operate a used-parts or bargain-bin section, so a fitted or damaged part can have very little resale value.
Where your handling has reduced the value of the goods beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect them, your refund may be reduced to reflect that loss in value.
What if the item is faulty?
Are any items excluded from change-of-mind returns?
How do I start a return?
Please include your order number and a brief reason for the return. Do not send anything back until you have received the appropriate return instructions.
Buy with confidence: all new parts sold by Twinwoods 4x4 include at least 12 months manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.
Some products and brands may include a longer warranty period where this is provided by the manufacturer. Where applicable, this will normally be stated on the individual product page or covered by the manufacturer’s own warranty terms.
Warranty cover applies to manufacturing defects. It does not cover misuse, incorrect fitting, competition use unless stated, contamination, modification, damage during installation, normal wear and tear, or failure caused by an unrelated vehicle fault. For certain components, proof of professional fitment may be required.
Warranty claims may require the part to be returned for inspection and/or supplier testing before the claim is accepted. Any advance replacement is discretionary.
Warranty remedies relate to the part itself, meaning repair or replacement, or refund if those are not possible. Warranty does not cover labour, removal or refitting, diagnostics, consumables, travel or other incidental costs.
This warranty is in addition to your legal rights and does not reduce those rights.
