Start with the job and the fastener being removed. Specialist Land Rover tools cover awkward propshaft flange nuts, wheel and hub nuts, TD5 engine fasteners and Defender brake caliper bolts, alongside general metric spanners and impact sockets for routine workshop use.
| Job | Best place to start | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Propshaft removal and fitting | 9/16-inch AF propshaft socket or combination spanner | Check the fastener size and the 3/8-inch drive requirement of the dedicated socket |
| Wheel nut removal | 27mm deep socket or plastic-coated 27mm impact socket | Check the wheel nut size, wheel type and whether impact-tool use is required |
| Hub and wheel bearing work | 52mm deep impact socket or 52mm hub nut box spanner | Check vehicle fitment and whether the job needs an impact socket or manual box spanner |
| TD5 cylinder-head work | E14 female socket for the cylinder-head bolts | Check the E14 profile and required square drive |
| TD5 auxiliary belt work | 14 x 15mm deep-offset ring spanner | Check that the tool is being bought for the belt tensioner fastener and access available |
| Defender brake caliper bolts | 1/2-inch AF 12-point socket | Confirm both the AF size and 12-point fastener profile |
| General metric servicing | Metric combination spanners or a deep impact socket set | Check the included sizes and whether the sockets are rated for impact use |
Check the fastener and drive before ordering
The nominal size alone does not confirm the correct tool. Match the fastener size, profile, square drive and available access, particularly on older Land Rovers where AF and metric fittings can appear on the same vehicle.
Match the tool to the actual fastener rather than selecting the nearest-looking metric or imperial size.
Check whether the fastener needs a 6-point, 12-point or female E14 socket profile.
Confirm whether the tool uses a 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch square drive and that the ratchet, breaker bar or impact wrench matches.
Use an impact-rated socket with an impact wrench. Protective plastic sleeves are available where reducing contact with alloy wheels matters.
