300TDI starter batteries for Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic, including heavy-duty sealed-calcium batteries, high-cranking starter batteries and spiral AGM technology.

Match the battery to the vehicle and battery tray rather than ordering by engine alone. Check the physical dimensions, terminal position, terminal type, hold-down arrangement, Ah capacity and cold cranking performance against the battery currently fitted, particularly where an older Land Rover has had its tray or battery leads modified.

Find the right 300TDI battery

A 12V battery can have enough capacity to start a 300TDI but still be physically wrong for the vehicle. Battery case size, terminal layout and secure mounting are just as important as the Ah and CCA figures.

Job Best place to start Check before ordering
Replace a weak starter battery Heavy-duty sealed-calcium starter battery Case dimensions, terminal layout, hold-down and cable reach
Improve cold-starting performance High-CCA commercial-style starter battery The larger battery fits the tray and can be secured correctly
Fit an AGM starter battery Spiral AGM high-cranking battery Physical size, terminal position and suitability for the charging system
Check the battery before replacing it 12V battery, cranking and charging-system tester Test the fully charged battery and check alternator output and parasitic drain

Check 300TDI battery fitment before ordering

Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic battery installations are not automatically interchangeable. Previous replacement work, additional electrical equipment and battery-tray modifications can also affect which battery will fit properly.

Battery dimensions
Measure the length, width and overall height of the existing battery, including the terminals.
Terminal layout
Check whether the positive and negative terminals match the existing battery leads without stretching or crossing them.
Tray and hold-down
Confirm that the battery sits fully within the tray and can be secured using the vehicle’s existing clamp or retaining system.
Starting performance
Compare the Ah capacity and CCA output, particularly for vehicles used in cold weather, fitted with accessories or left standing between journeys.

Battery construction and starting performance

Battery type What it offers
Sealed-calcium starter battery Conventional maintenance-free starting power with high-capacity and high-CCA choices for working Land Rovers.
Spiral AGM starter battery Compact high-cranking construction with strong vibration resistance and rapid charge acceptance.
Battery tester Checks battery condition, measured cranking performance and alternator charging output before parts are replaced.
