Find the right torque wrench
Torque wrenches should be selected by the specified tightening value rather than drive size alone. The three tools in this category cover smaller engine and service fixings, general workshop assembly and the much higher torque figures used on certain hub and crankshaft fasteners.

Check the torque wrench before ordering
Use the specified tightening figure for the exact vehicle and component, then make sure it falls within the wrench’s working range. Drive size, tightening direction and available access also need to match the socket and job.
Confirm that the required tightening figure falls within the stated minimum and maximum range of the wrench.
Match the 1/4″, 1/2″ or 3/4″ square drive to the sockets and type of fixing being tightened.
Check whether measured torque can be applied clockwise only or in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions.
Consider the wrench length, surrounding components and the space needed to apply the required torque safely and steadily.
