This OE Defender swivel housing repair kit GA3167PG / DA3167PG is designed for early Land Rover Defender 90, 110 and 130 up to around 1993 (approx VIN KA930455).  It gives you the OE-quality seals, bearings and small parts needed to rebuild one swivel housing properly when the housing and ball themselves are still in good condition, without chasing individual part numbers.

What this kit does

With Defender swivel housings it is common for the metal swivel seal retainer to rust and expose the seal to the elements, allowing dirt and moisture to deteriorate both the seal and the swivel ball itself.  This results in the swivel grease leaking, the swivel ball eventually pitting and increase wear to the upper and lower swivel bearings.  This kit replaces all of those items including top swivel pin and bearing, gaskets, shims, lower swivel pin bearing, swivel seal and seal retainer plate.  All in one kit to do the job properly.

Because axles and swivel housings are sometimes swapped over the years, it’s worth confirming your Defender does not have ABS at the front and uses the correct non-ABS swivel housing before ordering.  If in doubt, check your existing parts or contact us with your VIN.

When to choose this kit

Choose this Defender swivel rebuild kit when the swivel housing and ball surfaces are still smooth and presentable, but you are dealing with leaks, contaminated grease or light play at the hub.  It’s ideal for preventative maintenance on a working Defender, or when you are already doing other front axle jobs such as wheel bearings or brakes and want to freshen up the swivels at the same time.

If the swivel housings and balls are badly worn or corroded, it is usually better value in the long run to fit a complete swivel housing kit with new housings and balls instead of relying on seals alone.
