Discovery 1 & Range Rover Classic OE Swivel Housing Kit (Later Non-ABS) – GA3165G / DA3165G

This OE swivel housing kit is designed for later Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic front axles that do not have ABS. By this stage in production Land Rover had moved to the later swivel housing pattern covered by GA3165G / DA3165G. On many of these vehicles the original housings and balls are now tired and corroded, so simply fitting new seals is only a short-term answer.

With this kit you can replace the complete swivel assembly on one side with a brand new housing and ball, backed up with OE quality seals and bearings (usually Corteco and Timken) so the front axle is rebuilt properly rather than patched up.

What this kit does

Later Discovery and Classic front axles still suffer from the same issues as the earlier ones – rusty swivel housings, worn bearings and seals that no longer hold oil or grease in place. That leads to leaks down the swivel, contamination of the wheels and brakes and unwanted play at the hub that often shows up at MOT time.

By fitting a new swivel housing and ball together with fresh OE quality bearings and seals, this kit effectively resets one side of the axle to zero wear. You get tight, smooth swivels again, cleaner wheels and sharper steering feel, and the front axle shouldn’t need attention again for a long time under normal road and off-road use.

What’s included

Supplied for one side of the front axle, the kit typically includes:

• New swivel housing with swivel ball
• Top swivel pin and OE quality bearing
• Bottom swivel pin OE quality bearing
• Swivel housing oil seal
• Swivel grease sachet
• Paper gaskets and shims
• Joint washers, seals and small fittings required for a standard rebuild

All bearings and seals are OE quality from recognised manufacturers, usually Corteco and Timken.

Vehicle compatibility

• Land Rover Discovery 1 from VIN JA32851 onwards without ABS front brakes
• Range Rover Classic from VIN JA624517 onwards without ABS
• Suits vehicles using the later non-ABS swivel housing pattern corresponding to GA3165G / DA3165G

Because axles and hubs are often swapped around over the years, it’s worth confirming your vehicle is non-ABS and uses this later housing style before ordering. If you’re unsure, contact us with your VIN and we’ll double-check.

When to choose this kit

Choose GA3165G / DA3165G when:

• Your existing swivel housings and balls are visibly pitted, rusty or worn
• You want a long-term “fit and forget” solution rather than repeatedly changing seals
• You’re rebuilding the front axle on a later Discovery 1 or Classic and want the swivels to match new bearings, bushes and brakes

The kits are sold per side, and there is a saving available when you buy a pair to overhaul both swivels together. If your housings and balls are still in very good condition and you mainly need to cure light leaks, an OE swivel repair kit without housings for later non-ABS vehicles may be more cost-effective.
