Description

This swivel repair kit is designed for Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic models fitted with ABS front axles. On these vehicles the original swivel seals and bearings are now many years old, so it’s common to see grease and oil working past the seals and making a mess of the inside of the wheels, or to feel play at the hub during an MOT check. GA3166P / DA3166P lets you strip and rebuild one swivel assembly properly when the existing swivel ball is still smooth and reusable, without buying full swivel housings.

Because it uses good quality aftermarket bearings and seals, it’s a cost-effective way to tidy up a tired front axle on a daily driver or off-road truck while keeping the spend sensible.

What this kit does

When the swivel seals harden and the bearings wear, oil and grease can escape, contaminating the brake discs and eventually leading to advisories or failures. Worn bearings also allow the hub to move slightly, which can be felt as free play when the wheel is rocked at 12 and 6 o’clock. This kit provides the key bearings, seals and small fittings required to overhaul one ABS swivel while reusing the existing ball and housing, restoring proper preload, helping to stop leaks and sharpening up the steering feel.

What’s included

This kit covers one side of the front axle and includes:

  • Top swivel pin and bearing
  • Bottom swivel pin bearing
  • Swivel housing oil seal
  • Swivel grease sachet
  • Paper gaskets and shims
  • Joint washers, seals and small fittings required for a standard rebuild

Vehicle compatibility

  • Land Rover Discovery 1 with ABS front axles (1989–1998)
  • Range Rover Classic models with ABS front axles

Because axles and hubs are often swapped around over the years, it’s worth confirming your vehicle has ABS at the front and uses the ABS-type swivel housing before ordering. This kit does not include swivel balls or housings.

When to choose this kit

Choose this kit when you have an ABS-equipped Discovery 1 or Range Rover Classic, the swivel balls are still bright and smooth, and you mainly need to deal with leaks or a little play at the hub. It’s ideal when you are refreshing brakes, wheel bearings or suspension bushes at the same time and want to bring the swivels up to scratch.

If the swivel balls are heavily pitted or flaking, or you are planning a long-term “fit and forget” rebuild, a full swivel housing kit with new housings and balls will usually be the better choice.

Fitting notes

This kit rebuilds one swivel only; order two kits if you plan to overhaul both sides. Fitting involves stripping the hub, brake caliper, ABS sensor, stub axle and halfshaft, then removing the old swivel housing and shims. Always follow the Land Rover workshop manual, set the swivel preload with a spring balance and the new shims supplied, then pack and refill with the specified swivel oil or one-shot grease. After a short road test, re-check for leaks and ensure there is no remaining play at the wheel.

Warranty

Buy with confidence: all new parts sold by Twinwoods 4x4 include at least 12 months manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.

Some products and brands may include a longer warranty period where this is provided by the manufacturer. Where applicable, this will normally be stated on the individual product page or covered by the manufacturer’s own warranty terms.

Warranty cover applies to manufacturing defects. It does not cover misuse, incorrect fitting, competition use unless stated, contamination, modification, damage during installation, normal wear and tear, or failure caused by an unrelated vehicle fault. For certain components, proof of professional fitment may be required.

Warranty claims may require the part to be returned for inspection and/or supplier testing before the claim is accepted. Any advance replacement is discretionary.

Warranty remedies relate to the part itself, meaning repair or replacement, or refund if those are not possible. Warranty does not cover labour, removal or refitting, diagnostics, consumables, travel or other incidental costs.

This warranty is in addition to your legal rights and does not reduce those rights.
