Description
300TDI outer front timing cover seal
ERR4576 is the traditional outer front timing cover seal used on Land Rover 300TDI engines. It fits at the front timing cover / crankshaft position and is commonly supplied for Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic 300TDI applications.
ERR4576 or ERR7143?
Land Rover parts data shows ERR4576 and ERR7143 as different outer seal designs for the same 300TDI front timing cover position. ERR4576 is the earlier / traditional-style seal, while ERR7143 is the later-style seal listed for later Defender and Discovery 1 300TDI applications.
If you are replacing the seal in an engine with uncertain history, match the seal removed from the timing cover where possible. Corteco is the aftermarket brand of the Freudenberg Group.
Fruedenberg is a company with 170 years of history. Originally founded in 1849 as a leather tannery, it wasn't until 1932 when Freudenburg entered the seal business.
In 1957, Freudenburg first got involved in vibration control technology by engineering and manufacturing shock absorbers and bushings under the name Matalastik. In the same year, Freudenburg entered a partnership with Italian seal manufacturer Corte & Cosso. This partnership is where the Corteco name came from. In fact, the name Corteco in Italian is the term used for sealing ring or rotating shaft.
