GAP IIDTool BT G3 Bluetooth Diagnostic Tool TFIIDBT

If you run a modern Land Rover, a basic code reader only scratches the surface. The GAP IIDTool BT G3 is a small Bluetooth module that plugs into the OBD socket and gives you deep access to the electronics in your Defender, Discovery or Range Rover using an app on your phone, tablet or laptop.

This G3 version is the one you want if you have a Defender Puma (2.4 or 2.2 TDCI) or one of the earlier platform vehicles up to around 2016. One tool will talk to several different models, but once you unlock the “heavy-duty” programming features they are tied (VIN-locked) to a single vehicle – ideal if you mainly look after your own truck but still want to help friends or customers with general diagnostics.

What you can do with it

• Read and clear fault codes from all the main systems – engine, gearbox, ABS, airbag, body, suspension etc.
• Watch live data streams while the vehicle is running, with multiple values on screen at once so you can see how everything interacts.
• Log data for later analysis when you’re chasing intermittent problems.
• Carry out routine workshop jobs such as service indicator reset on supported models.
• Trigger individual components (fans, valves, pumps, lamps and so on) to help confirm whether a fault is wiring, hardware or ECU-related.
• Perform various calibrations such as air-suspension heights and steering angle on the vehicles that support it.

Programming and customisation functions*

Where the IIDTool really earns its keep is in the more advanced side of things. On compatible vehicles you can:

• Update ECU software where GAP provide flash files
• Edit the car configuration (CCF) to switch features on or off or change how they behave
• Adjust air-suspension heights and create your own height profiles
• Recalibrate height sensors after suspension work
• Make certain engine-related changes such as EGR behaviour or speed limiter adjustments where the vehicle and ECU allow it

The exact feature set varies by model and by ECU, so if you need a specific function it’s worth double-checking the latest coverage notes before you commit.

Vehicle coverage – G3 hardware

The G3 unit is aimed at “pre-very-latest” vehicles and offers its strongest coverage on:

• Defender Puma L316 – 2007–2016
• Discovery 3 / LR3 L319 – 2004–2009
• Discovery 4 / LR4 L319 – 2010–2016
• Freelander 2 / LR2 L359 – roughly 2008–2015
• Range Rover L322 – 2002–2012
• Range Rover Sport L320 – 2005–2013
• Range Rover Evoque L538 and Range Rover / Range Rover Sport L405 / L494 – early model years, with more limited coverage on later cars
• Discovery Sport L550 and Discovery 5 L462 – basic and partial coverage only

For 2020-on models, and for full functionality on many 2017-on vehicles, the newer G4 hardware is the correct choice – the G3 is mainly for the earlier generation.
