The rear door on a Defender has a hard life. Years of slamming, heavy spare wheels and off-road vibration often leave the original striker worn, rusty or bent out of shape. Once the striker face is damaged the latch never quite closes as it should, leading to rattles, poor alignment and extra stress on the hinges. When the door doesn’t shut properly we normally just put it down to “it’s a Defender” !
This late type rear door striker FQB500160 is a direct replacement assembly for modern Defender models. It restores a clean latch surface and correct geometry so the rear door can shut and lock properly again.
Fitment
Suitable for late type Defender rear doors using Land Rover part number FQB500160, typically:
- Defender 90 and 110 Td5 models with later style rear door
- Defender 90, 110 and 130 Puma TDCI models
- Series 3 (RH Front Door) with anti burst door locks
- 101 Forward Control (RH Front Door) with anti burst door locks
If you are unsure which type you have, compare the photos with your existing striker.
When to replace the rear door striker
- Door is difficult to latch or needs to be slammed shut
- Visible wear or grooves on the striker face
- Excessive play when the door is closed, causing rattles over bumps
- Replacement rear door has been fitted and the original striker no longer lines up correctly
Replacing a worn striker is a quick job that can make a big difference to how solidly the door shuts.
Fitting notes
The striker bolts to the body with two bolts. Mark the current position before removal to give you a starting point for adjustment.
- Loosely fit the new striker and close the door gently to check alignment
- Adjust up, down and in/out as needed until the door closes cleanly without needing to be slammed
- Tighten the mounting bolts fully once you are happy with the fit
A light smear of grease on the latch face will help reduce wear and squeaks. Always check that the door locks and opens correctly from both inside and outside before driving.
