Description
ZF Lifeguard Fluid 8 is the dedicated semi-synthetic automatic transmission fluid developed for the ZF 8HP automatic gearbox family. Its friction characteristics are matched to the transmission for consistent shift behaviour, while the formulation provides thermal and oxidation stability, component protection and the low-temperature performance required by a modern electronically controlled automatic gearbox. For Land Rover vehicles using fluid reference LR023288 and a compatible ZF 8HP transmission, Lifeguard Fluid 8 puts the gearbox manufacturer’s own fluid specification back into the transmission.
The fluid inside a ZF 8HP is part of the way the gearbox operates, not simply a lubricant of approximately the right viscosity. ZF specifically developed Lifeguard Fluid 8 around its 8HP transmissions and warns that using other oils can adversely affect shift characteristics and, in severe cases, damage the transmission. That makes the correct ZF fluid a very different proposition from selecting a broad multi-vehicle ATF because it appears to cover a similar viscosity range.
Land Rover ZF 8HP Use
LR023288 is used across Land Rover models fitted with compatible ZF 8-speed automatic transmissions, including 8HP-equipped Discovery 4, Range Rover L322 and Range Rover Sport models, together with later Land Rover vehicles using the same fluid reference. Fitment is determined by the gearbox and specified fluid rather than the model name alone, as several Land Rover ranges were produced with more than one automatic transmission type.

ZF 8HP Oil Change
ZF describes its automatic transmissions as generally filled with lifetime oil, but also recommends an oil change after 150,000 km – approximately 93,000 miles. ZF states that shorter intervals can make sense where the transmission has been subjected to high temperatures or heavy loads, or where the vehicle’s previous use and service history are unknown.
ZF also specifies that containers up to 20L should be shaken vigorously for at least 15 seconds before the oil is dispensed.

Warranty
Buy with confidence: all new parts sold by Twinwoods 4x4 include at least 12 months manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.
Some products and brands may include a longer warranty period where this is provided by the manufacturer. Where applicable, this will normally be stated on the individual product page or covered by the manufacturer’s own warranty terms.
Warranty cover applies to manufacturing defects. It does not cover misuse, incorrect fitting, competition use unless stated, contamination, modification, damage during installation, normal wear and tear, or failure caused by an unrelated vehicle fault. For certain components, proof of professional fitment may be required.
Warranty claims may require the part to be returned for inspection and/or supplier testing before the claim is accepted. Any advance replacement is discretionary.
Warranty remedies relate to the part itself, meaning repair or replacement, or refund if those are not possible. Warranty does not cover labour, removal or refitting, diagnostics, consumables, travel or other incidental costs.
