Description
300TDI front timing cover replacement
This front timing cover is for Land Rover 300TDI engines fitted to Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic models. It covers the timing belt area at the front of the engine and is replaced when the original cover is damaged, badly corroded, distorted or no longer sealing correctly. Original part number references include ERR7146 and ERR4578.
Common reasons for replacement include oil leaks around the timing case, physical damage to the cover, previous poor repairs, corrosion around sealing faces, or damage found during timing belt work. If the cover has been removed, the sealing parts should be inspected before refitting.
When fitting the cover, renew the ERR7293 300TDI timing cover gasket and check the ERR2344 front cover sealing washer. If there is oil inside the timing case, the ERR4575G front crankshaft oil seal is also worth checking while the area is apart.
