Description

This OE swivel housing kit is designed specifically for Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic models fitted with ABS front brakes. On these vehicles the original swivel housings and balls are now many years old; once the surface is worn or corroded, simply fitting new seals doesn’t last long and leaks soon return. GA3166G / DA3166G allows you to replace the complete swivel assembly on one side, with a new housing and ball supported by OE quality seals and bearings (usually Corteco and Timken), so the job is done properly.

It’s ideal if you’re keeping an ABS-equipped Discovery or Classic for the long haul, or rebuilding the front axle and want the steering and braking to feel as sharp and predictable as they should.

What this kit does

Tired swivel housings cause a familiar set of symptoms: oil or grease creeping down the swivel, messy wheels, contaminated brakes and vague steering, often accompanied by MOT advisories for leaks or free play. When the housing and ball themselves are worn, a repair kit that only supplies seals can only ever be a temporary fix.

By fitting a new swivel housing and ball, together with OE quality bearings and seals, this kit effectively resets one side of the axle to zero wear. You get tight, smooth swivels again, cleaner wheels and a front axle that shouldn’t need attention again for a long time under normal on-road and off-road use.

What’s included

Supplied for one side of the front axle, the kit typically includes:

  • New swivel housing with swivel ball
  • Top swivel pin and OE quality bearing
  • Bottom swivel pin OE quality bearing
  • Swivel housing oil seal
  • Swivel grease sachet
  • Paper gaskets and shims
  • Joint washers, seals and small fittings required for a standard rebuild

All bearings and seals are OE quality from recognised manufacturers, usually Corteco and Timken, matching what you’d expect from a proper workshop-level rebuild.

Vehicle compatibility

  • Land Rover Discovery 1 with ABS front brakes using the GA3166-type swivel housing
  • Range Rover Classic with ABS front brakes using the same housing pattern

Because axles and hubs are often swapped around over the years, it’s worth confirming that your vehicle has ABS at the front and uses this housing style before ordering. If you’re unsure, contact us with your VIN and we’ll double-check.

When to choose this kit

Choose GA3166G / DA3166G when:

  • Your ABS-equipped Discovery 1 or Range Rover Classic has visibly pitted or rusty swivel housings and balls
  • You’re seeing repeat MOT advisories for leaks or free play at the swivels
  • You’re planning a full front-axle refresh and want a long-term “fit and forget” solution rather than patching tired original parts

The kit is sold per side, and there is a saving available when you buy a pair to overhaul both swivels together. If your housings and balls are still in very good condition and you mainly need to tackle minor leaks, an OE swivel repair kit for ABS vehicles (without housings) may be a more cost-effective option.

Warranty

Buy with confidence: all new parts sold by Twinwoods 4x4 include at least 12 months manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.

Some products and brands may include a longer warranty period where this is provided by the manufacturer. Where applicable, this will normally be stated on the individual product page or covered by the manufacturer’s own warranty terms.

Warranty cover applies to manufacturing defects. It does not cover misuse, incorrect fitting, competition use unless stated, contamination, modification, damage during installation, normal wear and tear, or failure caused by an unrelated vehicle fault. For certain components, proof of professional fitment may be required.

Warranty claims may require the part to be returned for inspection and/or supplier testing before the claim is accepted. Any advance replacement is discretionary.

Warranty remedies relate to the part itself, meaning repair or replacement, or refund if those are not possible. Warranty does not cover labour, removal or refitting, diagnostics, consumables, travel or other incidental costs.

This warranty is in addition to your legal rights and does not reduce those rights.
