MT82 output shaft repair option for Defender TDCI models
The MT82 gearbox fitted to Defender 2.4 and 2.2 TDCI models can suffer wear in the gearbox-to-transfer box output shaft / coupling shaft area. Symptoms can include driveline clunk when taking up drive, clunking on overrun, or loss of drive if the splines fail completely.
There are different repair approaches for this known MT82 issue. Some kits retain the original-style coupling arrangement and improve lubrication to the splined joint. This kit uses a one-piece shaft design, replacing the original coupling arrangement with a complete replacement shaft.
This is a specialist transmission repair part for Defenders fitted with the MT82 6-speed manual gearbox. Before ordering, make sure the fault has been traced to the output shaft / coupling shaft area, as driveline clunk can also come from propshafts, drive flanges, differentials, suspension bushes and other transmission wear.
