Propshaft tools and replacement fixings for removing and refitting the awkward 9/16-inch AF flange nuts used on many Defender, Discovery 1, Discovery 2 and Range Rover Classic propshafts.
Use the dedicated 3/8-inch drive socket where access around the yoke is tight, hold or turn the opposite fixing with the 9/16-inch combination spanner, and replace rounded, corroded or mismatched nuts and bolts rather than refitting damaged hardware.

Choose the right propshaft tool
The tools in this section are built around the 9/16-inch AF flange fasteners found on many traditional Land Rover propshafts. The dedicated socket, combination spanner and replacement fixing kit each cover a different part of removing and refitting the propshaft.

Use the correct 9/16-inch AF tool
Propshaft flange nuts sit close to the yokes and can be difficult to reach squarely with an ordinary socket. The extended propshaft socket provides better access with a compact 3/8-inch drive, while the combination spanner covers the opposite side and positions where socket access remains restricted.
The proper 9/16-inch AF size fits the flange hardware more accurately than a substituted metric tool, reducing the risk of slipping or rounding fasteners that may already be tight or corroded.
Replace damaged propshaft fixings
Rounded nuts, damaged threads and mismatched old hardware should be replaced before the propshaft is refitted. The replacement nut and bolt kit covers one propshaft on Defender, Discovery 1, Discovery 2 and Range Rover Classic models using this traditional flange fixing arrangement.
