Our TD5 head gasket range covers the three standard Elring OEM gasket options for Defender TD5 and Discovery 2 TD5 engines: 1 hole, 2 hole and 3 hole.

If you already know which gasket you need, go straight to the correct version below. In most cases the existing gasket can be identified by the visible tab at the edge of the gasket: one dot = 1 hole, two dots = 2 hole, three dots = 3 hole.

Choosing the correct TD5 head gasket

These are not generic one-size-fits-all head gaskets. TD5 engines use different gasket thicknesses, and the correct version matters. The simplest approach is usually to check what is already fitted and replace like for like, using the visible tab and dot marking to identify whether the engine has a 1 hole, 2 hole or 3 hole gasket.

If you are rebuilding an engine and have a specific reason to change thickness, that decision should be based on proper measurement and build requirements, not guesswork.  Refer to the workshop manual about measuring piston protrusion.

Why use an Elring OEM TD5 head gasket?

A head gasket is not the place to save a few pounds on unknown quality. Elring is a trusted OEM manufacturer and the sensible choice where fit, sealing and long-term reliability matter. Cheap head gaskets are a false economy on a TD5 engine, especially when the labour involved in doing the job properly is considered.

Recommended parts for a TD5 head gasket job

When replacing a TD5 head gasket, new head bolts should always be fitted. Steel locating dowels are also strongly recommended. These are sensible job parts to replace at the same time rather than reusing old components.

All gaskets listed here fit Defender TD5 and Discovery 2 TD5 applications. Choose the exact hole count you need above.  We may at times offer alternative brands, if they are listed here they are worth using.

If you are still building the parts list for the job, see our Td5 Cylinder Head page for head bolts, dowels, injector seals and related parts.
