Td5 oil filter spanner for LPX100590-size filters
This Td5 oil filter spanner is made for removing spin-on oil filters on Defender Td5 and Discovery 2 Td5 engines. It is designed to fit Genuine Land Rover LPX100590-size Td5 oil filters correctly, with a 145mm handle length chosen to balance leverage with the limited working space around the Td5 oil filter housing.
The important difference is access. Many cup-type oil filter tools need access below the filter, which is awkward on a Td5. This side-access fluted spanner grips the outside of the filter, giving a more practical way to remove tight filters in the limited space around the Td5 oil filter housing.
For tighter filters, a 1/2″ drive ratchet or bar can be used through the square hole in the handle. The same hole can also be used to hang the spanner in a garage or workshop so it is easy to keep with your service tools.
The spanner is made from 6mm steel and Nitrotec N40 treated for wear resistance, corrosion resistance and surface hardness. Nitrotec is a surface treatment rather than a plated coating, so it is intended to protect the tool without flaking away over time. The finish is functional rather than decorative.

Care: Store the tool in a clean, dry environment. An occasional wipe with oil will help protect it in the same way as other workshop hand tools, especially if it has been exposed to water.
Warranty: This Td5 oil filter spanner is designed for normal professional and enthusiast workshop use. Twinwoods 4×4 provides a 2 year warranty on in-house manufactured tools, excluding misuse or abuse.

What is Nitrotec®?
Nitrotec® (nitriding-oxidising-protection) is a patented thermo-chemical diffusion process, during which the surface of steels, is nitrocarburized and next oxidized and cooled. Nitrotec® combines the useful properties of the nitrocarburizing (improved surface hardness and wear resistance, enhanced fatigue strength, no material distortion) with the high resistance against atmospheric corrosion, increased yield strength and an almost-black finish.
In short this process adds hardening, strength and corrosion resistance. Additionally as this process is a treatment not a coating it won’t come off. This finish is far superior to zinc plating which, although cheaper, will come off over time and expose the steel to the elements since the zinc is sacrificial. Zinc coating is prettier though.
