Hardy Spicer

Hardy Spicer propshafts and universal joints for Land Rover Defender, Discovery and Range Rover driveline repairs, including complete front and rear propshafts and replacement UJs.

Start with the vehicle, front or rear propshaft position and the part being replaced. Older Land Rovers may have replacement or rebuilt propshafts fitted, so check the original part number, flange arrangement and universal-joint dimensions before ordering.

Find the right Hardy Spicer driveline part

Hardy Spicer is best known for propshafts, universal joints and driveline components. Match the replacement to the propshaft actually fitted, particularly where a Land Rover has been rebuilt, modified or fitted with a later replacement shaft.

Job Best place to start Check before ordering
Replace a complete front propshaft Front propshaft for the correct vehicle, engine and driveline layout Check the part number, flange arrangement, overall layout and any transmission or wheelbase split
Replace a complete rear propshaft Rear propshaft matching the vehicle, wheelbase and drivetrain Confirm the front or rear position, flange type and original propshaft reference
Replace a propshaft universal joint Hardy Spicer UJ matching the existing joint dimensions Measure across the bearing cups and confirm the bearing-cap diameter rather than relying on vehicle fitment alone
Compare Hardy Spicer and GKN parts Use the stated brand and product markings on each product page Some Hardy Spicer products are marked GKN or described as GKN Hardy Spicer because of the shared driveline history

Check propshaft fitment before ordering

Vehicle, year and VIN information can narrow the choice, but it may not confirm which propshaft is currently fitted. Replacement shafts, rebuilt propshafts and conversions can differ from the original factory specification.

Front or rear propshaft Confirm the propshaft position before comparing part numbers. Front and rear shafts can use different lengths, flanges and universal joints.
Vehicle and drivetrain Check the model, engine, transmission, wheelbase and any stated early or late fitment split.
Propshaft already fitted An older Land Rover may have a rebuilt, upgraded or replacement propshaft that differs from the original vehicle specification.
Universal-joint dimensions Measure across the bearing cups and confirm the bearing-cap diameter. Nominal 75mm, 82mm and 95mm joints are not interchangeable.

Hardy Spicer and GKN

Hardy Spicer became part of GKN’s driveline business, which is why the two names often appear together. Some products are supplied as Hardy Spicer, some carry GKN markings, and some are described as GKN Hardy Spicer.

Free mainland UK postage and packaging is available on eligible orders over £99, subject to our delivery terms and conditions.

Returns
Up to 60-day returns Change-of-mind return carriage at your cost Check fitment before ordering
Extended 60-day returns. In addition to your statutory rights, eligible products can be returned for up to 60 days from delivery. Our extended returns policy automatically applies to individual products purchased for less than £250 including VAT. Products costing £250 or more may still be accepted for return at our discretion.
Please choose carefully before ordering. Check part numbers, fitment and suitability before purchase. Please do not order parts simply to try them or on the assumption that they can be fitted and then returned if unsuitable.
  • Changed your mind within 14 days? UK and EEA consumers have statutory cancellation rights. Tell us within 14 days of receiving your order, then return the goods within the following 14 days.
  • Need longer? Eligible products can be returned under our voluntary extended returns policy. Contact us within 60 days of delivery and, once the return has been agreed, send the goods back within 14 days.
  • Extended returns must be unused, unfitted, complete and suitable for resale as new. Goods must be undamaged, unmarked and uncontaminated, with all components and accessories supplied and their original product packaging where this formed part of the supplied product.
  • A £10 handling charge applies to extended returns. This is charged once per return consignment, regardless of how many eligible products are returned together. It does not apply where your statutory cancellation rights apply.
  • Return carriage and safe packing are your responsibility for change-of-mind returns.
  • Managed UK returns: where suitable, we can provide a convenient prepaid tracked return service with straightforward drop-off, proof of handover and tracking linked to your return. The cost will be advised before it is arranged and may be deducted from your refund.
  • Please do not fit or attempt to fit a part unless you intend to keep it. Fitting, attempted fitting, contamination, damage or excessive handling can substantially reduce the value of the goods. A product which has been fitted or used will not normally qualify for our voluntary extended returns policy.
  • Faulty, damaged or incorrectly described? Contact us first. We will advise the appropriate return method and will normally provide a prepaid return service or cover reasonable agreed return costs.
Returning it yourself? Please use a tracked, insured return service appropriate to the value and nature of the goods, pack and address the parcel correctly, and retain sufficient evidence to identify and trace the return. You remain responsible for the goods until they reach us.

Returns – quick FAQs

How long do I have to return an item?
Eligible products can be returned for up to 60 days from delivery under our voluntary extended returns policy.

For UK and EEA consumers, statutory change-of-mind cancellation rights also apply: tell us within 14 days of receiving your order, then return the goods within the following 14 days.
Which products qualify for 60-day returns?
Our extended returns policy automatically applies to individual products purchased for less than £250 including VAT.

Products purchased for £250 or more are not automatically covered, although we may agree to accept them for return at our discretion. Eligibility is based on the price of each individual product rather than the total order value.
Is there a charge for an extended return?
Returns made under our voluntary extended returns policy are subject to a £10 handling charge per return consignment, regardless of the number of eligible products returned together.

This charge does not apply where the return is being made under your statutory cancellation rights.
Who pays return carriage?
For change-of-mind returns, return carriage and safe packing are your responsibility. Where suitable, we can provide a prepaid tracked return service and advise the cost before it is arranged.

If an item is faulty, damaged or incorrectly described, contact us first. Where return is reasonably required, we will normally provide a prepaid return service or cover reasonable return costs agreed with us.
What condition must an extended return be in?
Goods returned under our extended returns policy must be unused, unfitted, complete and suitable for resale as new. They must be undamaged, unmarked and uncontaminated, with all components and accessories supplied and their original product packaging where this formed part of the supplied product.
Can I fit a part and then return it?
Please check fitment and suitability before installation. Please do not fit or attempt to fit a part unless you intend to keep it.

Once a part has been fitted or an attempt has been made to fit it, it may be marked, contaminated, damaged or otherwise unsuitable for resale as a new part. Fitted or used goods will not normally qualify for our voluntary extended returns policy.

Where statutory cancellation rights apply, handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect the goods may result in a reduction to your refund if it has reduced their value.
What if the item is faulty?
Contact us before returning it. Where a return is reasonably required for a faulty, damaged or incorrectly described item, we will normally provide a prepaid return service or cover reasonable return costs agreed with us.
Are any items excluded from 60-day returns?
Products purchased for £250 or more including VAT are not automatically covered by our extended returns policy, although we may agree a return at our discretion.

Extended returns must also meet the condition requirements above. Statutory exclusions and any separate statutory rights continue to apply as set out in our full Terms & Conditions.

Warranty

Buy with confidence: all new parts sold by Twinwoods 4x4 include at least 12 months manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.

Some products and brands may include a longer warranty period where this is provided by the manufacturer. Where applicable, this will normally be stated on the individual product page or covered by the manufacturer’s own warranty terms.

Warranty cover applies to manufacturing defects. It does not cover misuse, incorrect fitting, competition use unless stated, contamination, modification, damage during installation, normal wear and tear, or failure caused by an unrelated vehicle fault. For certain components, proof of professional fitment may be required.

Warranty claims may require the part to be returned for inspection and/or supplier testing before the claim is accepted. Any advance replacement is discretionary.

Warranty remedies relate to the part itself, meaning repair or replacement, or refund if those are not possible. Warranty does not cover labour, removal or refitting, diagnostics, consumables, travel or other incidental costs.

This warranty is in addition to your legal rights and does not reduce those rights.
