Both units include the integrated vacuum pump and drive pulley. The difference is manufacturer and price: Febi Bilstein is the lower-priced branded replacement, while the alternative is supplied as a Genuine Denso assembly for the same Defender TD5 and Discovery 2 TD5 fitment.

Febi Bilstein or Genuine Denso TD5 alternator?
Both TD5 alternators are complete 120A assemblies with the vacuum pump and drive pulley already fitted. They cover the same Defender TD5 and Discovery 2 TD5 fitment, leaving the main decision between the lower-priced Febi Bilstein replacement and the Genuine Denso assembly.

Why Twinwoods lists two TD5 alternators
The lowest-priced alternator previously stocked was withdrawn after repeated quality problems. The current product group is therefore limited to the Febi Bilstein and Genuine Denso assemblies that Twinwoods is prepared to sell.
The TD5 alternator also carries the vacuum pump used to supply brake servo vacuum. Replacing the assembly therefore involves more than the charging unit alone, making repeated failure or having to revisit the same job particularly undesirable.
Parts to check when replacing a TD5 alternator
Check the parts surrounding the alternator before fitting the replacement assembly. Oil leaks, belt contamination or an unhealthy battery can shorten component life or leave the original charging fault unresolved.
- Inspect the TD5 alternator oil feed hose for corrosion, cracking or oil leaks
- Check the TD5 auxiliary drive belt for cracking, glazing, fraying or oil contamination
- Test the battery and check the main charging cables, terminals and earth connections
