Description

A cracked metal casing, broken bracket, damaged rigid pipe or other solid component can stop a Land Rover in its tracks when the vehicle itself is otherwise perfectly capable of carrying on. If a replacement part or welding equipment is not available, J-B Weld Original Cold-Weld gives you a compact repair material capable of bonding, bridging and filling damage in rigid components – potentially making the difference between carrying out a controlled field repair and being stranded miles from anywhere.

That makes J-B Weld Original the sort of item that earns space in a Defender spares box, recovery kit or expedition load-out rather than something that only lives on the workshop shelf. The two small tubes take up very little room, yet give you a way of dealing with a completely different class of failure from cable ties or self-amalgamating tape. It is equally useful back in the workshop for damaged housings, brackets and general metal repair jobs where a strong, gap-filling compound is required.

Why Carry J-B Weld?

Emergency silicone repair tape is excellent where a flexible hose, cable or similar component can be wrapped tightly enough to contain or support the damage. A cracked casting or snapped rigid bracket is a different problem. J-B Weld Original complements those emergency repair materials by giving you something that can bond and fill rigid parts rather than simply wrapping around them.

It is not an instant-setting roadside adhesive – the repair needs adequate time to set before it is loaded – but for touring, overland or recovery use there are failures where waiting for a repair to harden is considerably better than having no means of repairing the component at all. Keep it with the vehicle tools and spares, or among your workshop consumables and chemicals for the jobs that cannot conveniently be dealt with by conventional fastening or wrapping.

Typical Uses

  • Cracks or damage in suitable metal housings, covers and casings
  • Broken non-safety-critical metal brackets and mounting pieces
  • Small cracks or holes in suitable rigid metal pipework and fittings
  • Bonding broken rigid components where the mating surfaces can be properly prepared
  • Filling gaps, voids and damaged areas before shaping or finishing after cure
  • General workshop bonding and repair of metal and other compatible rigid materials

Once fully cured, the material can be shaped, tapped, filed, sanded and drilled, which also makes it useful where the repair needs finishing rather than simply bonding two clean broken surfaces together.

How to Use

Good surface preparation matters. Remove dirt, oil, grease, paint, corrosion and loose material from the repair area, and roughen smooth surfaces where possible to give the epoxy a better mechanical key. Surfaces contaminated with oil or grease should be thoroughly degreased before mixing the product.

Squeeze out equal quantities from both tubes and mix the resin and hardener thoroughly at a 1:1 ratio until completely combined. Apply the mixed compound to the prepared repair area, then support, clamp or position the parts so the repair remains undisturbed while it sets. Allow 4–6 hours for the initial set and 15–24 hours for full cure before placing the repair under normal load.

J-B Weld Original is a valuable emergency and general repair material, but it is not a substitute for correct welding or component replacement where that is the proper mechanical repair. Steering, braking, suspension, structural or other safety-critical failures should be repaired correctly with the appropriate replacement parts or professional repair rather than relying on an epoxy repair as the permanent fix.

Returns
Up to 60-day returns Change-of-mind return carriage at your cost Check fitment before ordering
Extended 60-day returns. In addition to your statutory rights, eligible products can be returned for up to 60 days from delivery. Our extended returns policy automatically applies to individual products purchased for less than £250 including VAT. Products costing £250 or more may still be accepted for return at our discretion.
Please choose carefully before ordering. Check part numbers, fitment and suitability before purchase. Please do not order parts simply to try them or on the assumption that they can be fitted and then returned if unsuitable.
  • Changed your mind within 14 days? UK and EEA consumers have statutory cancellation rights. Tell us within 14 days of receiving your order, then return the goods within the following 14 days.
  • Need longer? Eligible products can be returned under our voluntary extended returns policy. Contact us within 60 days of delivery and, once the return has been agreed, send the goods back within 14 days.
  • Extended returns must be unused, unfitted, complete and suitable for resale as new. Goods must be undamaged, unmarked and uncontaminated, with all components and accessories supplied and their original product packaging where this formed part of the supplied product.
  • A £10 handling charge applies to extended returns. This is charged once per return consignment, regardless of how many eligible products are returned together. It does not apply where your statutory cancellation rights apply.
  • Return carriage and safe packing are your responsibility for change-of-mind returns.
  • Managed UK returns: where suitable, we can provide a convenient prepaid tracked return service with straightforward drop-off, proof of handover and tracking linked to your return. The cost will be advised before it is arranged and may be deducted from your refund.
  • Please do not fit or attempt to fit a part unless you intend to keep it. Fitting, attempted fitting, contamination, damage or excessive handling can substantially reduce the value of the goods. A product which has been fitted or used will not normally qualify for our voluntary extended returns policy.
  • Faulty, damaged or incorrectly described? Contact us first. We will advise the appropriate return method and will normally provide a prepaid return service or cover reasonable agreed return costs.
Returning it yourself? Please use a tracked, insured return service appropriate to the value and nature of the goods, pack and address the parcel correctly, and retain sufficient evidence to identify and trace the return. You remain responsible for the goods until they reach us.

Returns – quick FAQs

How long do I have to return an item?
Eligible products can be returned for up to 60 days from delivery under our voluntary extended returns policy.

For UK and EEA consumers, statutory change-of-mind cancellation rights also apply: tell us within 14 days of receiving your order, then return the goods within the following 14 days.
Which products qualify for 60-day returns?
Our extended returns policy automatically applies to individual products purchased for less than £250 including VAT.

Products purchased for £250 or more are not automatically covered, although we may agree to accept them for return at our discretion. Eligibility is based on the price of each individual product rather than the total order value.
Is there a charge for an extended return?
Returns made under our voluntary extended returns policy are subject to a £10 handling charge per return consignment, regardless of the number of eligible products returned together.

This charge does not apply where the return is being made under your statutory cancellation rights.
Who pays return carriage?
For change-of-mind returns, return carriage and safe packing are your responsibility. Where suitable, we can provide a prepaid tracked return service and advise the cost before it is arranged.

If an item is faulty, damaged or incorrectly described, contact us first. Where return is reasonably required, we will normally provide a prepaid return service or cover reasonable return costs agreed with us.
What condition must an extended return be in?
Goods returned under our extended returns policy must be unused, unfitted, complete and suitable for resale as new. They must be undamaged, unmarked and uncontaminated, with all components and accessories supplied and their original product packaging where this formed part of the supplied product.
Can I fit a part and then return it?
Please check fitment and suitability before installation. Please do not fit or attempt to fit a part unless you intend to keep it.

Once a part has been fitted or an attempt has been made to fit it, it may be marked, contaminated, damaged or otherwise unsuitable for resale as a new part. Fitted or used goods will not normally qualify for our voluntary extended returns policy.

Where statutory cancellation rights apply, handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect the goods may result in a reduction to your refund if it has reduced their value.
What if the item is faulty?
Contact us before returning it. Where a return is reasonably required for a faulty, damaged or incorrectly described item, we will normally provide a prepaid return service or cover reasonable return costs agreed with us.
Are any items excluded from 60-day returns?
Products purchased for £250 or more including VAT are not automatically covered by our extended returns policy, although we may agree a return at our discretion.

Extended returns must also meet the condition requirements above. Statutory exclusions and any separate statutory rights continue to apply as set out in our full Terms & Conditions.

Warranty

Buy with confidence: all new parts sold by Twinwoods 4x4 include at least 12 months manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.

Some products and brands may include a longer warranty period where this is provided by the manufacturer. Where applicable, this will normally be stated on the individual product page or covered by the manufacturer’s own warranty terms.

Warranty cover applies to manufacturing defects. It does not cover misuse, incorrect fitting, competition use unless stated, contamination, modification, damage during installation, normal wear and tear, or failure caused by an unrelated vehicle fault. For certain components, proof of professional fitment may be required.

Warranty claims may require the part to be returned for inspection and/or supplier testing before the claim is accepted. Any advance replacement is discretionary.

Warranty remedies relate to the part itself, meaning repair or replacement, or refund if those are not possible. Warranty does not cover labour, removal or refitting, diagnostics, consumables, travel or other incidental costs.

This warranty is in addition to your legal rights and does not reduce those rights.
