Description

Td5 injector puller problems usually start when someone tries to remove injectors with pry bars, grips or whatever else is lying around in the toolbox. Td5 injectors are clamped deep inside the aluminium head and don’t like being twisted or levered against – it’s very easy to crack the injector sockets or distort the injectors themselves.

This dedicated Td5 injector puller / injector removal tool is designed to pull the injector straight up, just as the original Land Rover service tools do. It works with a slide hammer so you can apply a controlled vertical impact to break the injector free, even on engines with heavy carbon build-up or long-neglected copper washers.

How the Td5 injector puller works

The puller body locates around the injector and clamps securely onto the injector . Once it is in place you attach your slide hammer to the threaded boss on the tool and slide the locking ring over the top. A series of sharp, vertical pulls then lifts the injector cleanly out of the bore instead of side-loading it.

Because the Td5 injector puller keeps all the force in line with the injector, there is far less stress put into the aluminium cylinder head. That means:

  • Less chance of cracking the injector socket
  • Less risk of bending the injector or damaging the nozzle
  • No levering against the cam carrier or rocker gear

When to use a Td5 injector puller

Any time you’re changing:

  • Td5 injector seals and copper washers
  • Injectors on a replacement / rebuilt head
  • A suspect or damaged injector on a Defender or Discovery 2

…this tool makes the job quicker, safer and much more repeatable. It’s especially useful on high-mileage engines where the injectors have never been out before, or where combustion gases have been leaking past the copper washer for some time.

Best practice when removing Td5 injectors

When using this Td5 injector puller, we recommend:

  1. Rotate the engine so the cam lobes are not pushing directly on the injector you’re removing.
  2. Clean around the injector and blow away loose dirt before you start – you don’t want debris falling into the bore.
  3. Fit the puller carefully so it seats correctly on the injector.
  4. Use firm, controlled blows with the slide hammer rather than huge swings; you’re aiming for clean vertical shocks, not brute force.

Once the injector is out, inspect the copper washer, O-rings and injector tip. If you’re replacing seals, always use quality parts and follow the correct torque / clamp sequence on refit. Our Td5 injector seal kit is the genuine Land Rover kit we use in the workshop and pairs perfectly with this tool.
