Defender Brake Calipers with Stainless Steel Pistons
Defender brake caliper pairs with stainless steel pistons for vented front brakes, Defender 90 rear brakes and later wide-pad Defender 110/130 rear setups. Each set includes the left- and right-hand calipers for one axle.
Stainless steel pistons resist corrosion better than ordinary steel pistons, making these calipers particularly well suited to Defenders exposed to road salt, mud, water or long periods standing. Match the front calipers to vented discs and the rear calipers to the correct 90 or 110/130 brake setup.

Which Defender stainless piston calipers fit?
The three caliper pairs cover different Defender brake setups. Front fitment is determined by the disc type, while rear fitment splits between Defender 90 and the later Defender 110/130 wide-pad design.
| Brake setup | Caliper pair | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Defender front vented brakes | SEB500460 / SEB500470 front caliper pair | Vented front discs must be fitted; these calipers do not fit solid-disc front brakes |
| Defender 90 rear brakes | SMC500240 / SMC500110 rear caliper pair | Defender 90 rear axle using the corresponding rear calipers |
| Defender 110/130 rear brakes | SMC500270 / SMC500260 rear caliper pair | Later wide-pad setup using SFP000250 pads, or an earlier 110/130 converted to this setup |
Why stainless steel pistons?
Brake caliper pistons are exposed to moisture, road salt and dirt around the wheel. Stainless steel pistons reduce one of the main corrosion points inside the caliper, helping prevent the sticking, uneven pad wear and fluid leakage associated with badly corroded pistons.
All three products are supplied as axle pairs. For pads, discs, hoses, caliper bolts and standard replacement components, see Defender brake parts. Front- and rear-specific parts are also separated into Defender front brake parts and Defender rear brake parts.
