TD5 MAF Sensors
TD5 MAF sensors for Defender and Discovery 2, including Delphi, Lucas, selected replacement and Genuine Land Rover mass air flow sensors replacing MHK100620.
The Delphi sensor is the main Twinwoods recommendation, with a dual-element sensing strip and stable live-data readings on standard and remapped TD5 engines. Lucas provides another branded replacement, while selected replacement and Genuine Land Rover sensors cover the remaining price and quality levels.

The MAF sensor measures the air entering the engine and sends that information to the ECU for fuelling and boost control. All of the sensors shown replace MHK100620 and fit Defender TD5 and Discovery 2 TD5, but their manufacturer and quality position differ.
| MAF sensor | Main distinction | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Delphi MHK100620G | Recommended branded sensor with a dual-element sensing strip and stable diagnostic readings | Standard and remapped TD5 engines where sensor accuracy and consistent airflow measurement are the priority |
| Lucas MHK100620 | Lucas branded direct-fit replacement requiring no coding | A recognised branded replacement for standard Defender TD5 and Discovery 2 TD5 models |
| Selected replacement MHK100620 | Lower-priced Allmakes replacement for the same sensor position | Replacing a failed sensor where purchase price is the main consideration |
| Genuine Land Rover MHK100620 | Genuine Land Rover supplied sensor | Vehicles where a Genuine Land Rover component is specifically required |
Check the fault before replacing the MAF sensor
Airflow should increase smoothly with engine speed and load. Very low, erratic or implausible readings can point to an inaccurate sensor.
A blocked, damaged or contaminated air filter can restrict airflow and affect the readings seen by the engine management system.
Split hoses, loose joints or leaks between the MAF sensor and turbo can create running faults that are not caused by the sensor itself.
Inspect the electrical plug for damaged terminals, corrosion, oil contamination or poor connection before fitting a replacement sensor.
Common TD5 MAF sensor symptoms
An inaccurate MAF sensor can contribute to poor throttle response, hesitation, flat performance, excess smoke, uneven running under load or poor fuel economy. These symptoms are not exclusive to the MAF sensor, so live-data testing and basic intake checks are preferable to replacing parts by guesswork.
