Discovery 2 Watts linkage parts for rear axle location repairs, including polyurethane bush kits, a pre-bushed centre pivot, complete replacement linkage, OEM fixing hardware and long-travel arms for lifted suspension.

The Watts linkage controls sideways movement of the rear axle while allowing the suspension to move through its travel. Wear in the bushes, centre pivot or fixings can cause rear-end knocking, looseness, wandering or vague handling. Repairs range from rebushing serviceable components to replacing the centre pivot or complete linkage, with long-travel arms available for lifted and extended-travel suspension.

Find the right Discovery 2 Watts linkage parts

Discovery 2 Watts linkage repairs can range from replacing worn bushes or seized fixings to renewing the centre pivot or complete linkage. The main decision is how much of the existing assembly remains serviceable and whether the vehicle uses standard-height or increased-travel suspension.

Repair job Best place to start Check before ordering
Replace worn linkage bushes Terrafirma or SuperPro polyurethane Watts linkage bush kit These kits replace the linkage bushes while retaining the existing arms and centre assembly
Replace the centre pivot Pre-bushed Watts linkage centre pivot Retains the existing linkage arms, so check that the arms themselves remain serviceable
Replace the complete linkage RGD100550 complete rear Watts linkage kit Includes the arms, centre pivot, bushes and arm fixing hardware; the ANR6920 centre bolt and ANR3140 nut are not included
Renew the fixing hardware Discovery 2 OEM Watts linkage bolt kit Complete set of five bolts and five nuts, including ANR6920, ANR3140, RHD100080 and FX214057

What the Discovery 2 Watts linkage does

The Watts linkage locates the rear axle laterally while still allowing normal vertical suspension movement. As the bushes and centre pivot wear, movement develops within the linkage instead of the axle being held securely in position. Rear-end clunks, wandering, vague handling or a rear-steer sensation can all point towards wear in this area.

The whole linkage does not automatically need replacing. Sound original arms can be retained with new bushes or a replacement centre pivot, while a complete linkage makes more sense when several components are worn, damaged or heavily corroded.

Fixings and the centre pivot bolt

Corroded or seized Watts linkage hardware is common enough to become part of the job once the linkage is dismantled. The Twinwoods 4x4 OEM bolt kit replaces all five bolts and five nuts across the linkage, including the ANR6920 centre bolt and ANR3140 nyloc nut. These two centre fixings are not supplied with the RGD100550 complete linkage kit.

Standard and lifted suspension

Standard-height Discovery 2 suspension retains the standard Watts linkage arm arrangement. TF497 long-travel arms are intended for lifted and extended-travel suspension where additional linkage clearance and movement are required; they are supplied without bushes.
