Adwest 4-bolt steering box seal repair
This Corteco steering box seal kit is for Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic models fitted with the Adwest 4-bolt power steering box. It is the correct seal kit to use when resealing the steering box during leak repair or overhaul work.
Steering box oil leaks are common on older Land Rovers and can leave fluid around the steering box, drop arm area, chassis rail or steering components below. If the steering box itself is serviceable and the issue is seal leakage, resealing the box can be a sensible repair.
Confirm that your vehicle has the Adwest 4-bolt steering box before ordering, as this kit is not for every Land Rover steering box. Corteco is the aftermarket brand of the Freudenberg Group.
Fruedenberg is a company with 170 years of history. Originally founded in 1849 as a leather tannery, it wasn't until 1932 when Freudenburg entered the seal business.
In 1957, Freudenburg first got involved in vibration control technology by engineering and manufacturing shock absorbers and bushings under the name Matalastik. In the same year, Freudenburg entered a partnership with Italian seal manufacturer Corte & Cosso. This partnership is where the Corteco name came from. In fact, the name Corteco in Italian is the term used for sealing ring or rotating shaft.

Some products and brands may include a longer warranty period where this is provided by the manufacturer. Where applicable, this will normally be stated on the individual product page or covered by the manufacturer’s own warranty terms.
Warranty cover applies to manufacturing defects. It does not cover misuse, incorrect fitting, competition use unless stated, contamination, modification, damage during installation, normal wear and tear, or failure caused by an unrelated vehicle fault. For certain components, proof of professional fitment may be required.
Warranty claims may require the part to be returned for inspection and/or supplier testing before the claim is accepted. Any advance replacement is discretionary.
Warranty remedies relate to the part itself, meaning repair or replacement, or refund if those are not possible. Warranty does not cover labour, removal or refitting, diagnostics, consumables, travel or other incidental costs.
