Ravenol RHP – our highest-performance differential oil

Ravenol RHP 75W-90 gives this category a genuine step above conventional differential oil. Developed as a PAO-based fully synthetic racing gear oil with Ravenol USVO technology, it is specifically intended for highly loaded drivetrain use and carries limited-slip characteristics alongside high load-carrying capacity, excellent EP properties, outstanding shear stability and strong thermal stability. The viscosity data is particularly compelling for a Land Rover axle. RHP measures 92.6 mm²/s at 40°C and 16.1 mm²/s at 100°C, with a viscosity index of 188. It therefore avoids the very heavy cooler viscosity of a traditional mineral 80W-90 while retaining substantial SAE 90 viscosity as the axle becomes hot.

RHP is considerably less viscous while the axle is warming up, yet is actually more viscous at 100°C. Ravenol separately specifies a high-pressure-stable lubricating film at high temperatures and loads, excellent EP performance and very good wear protection. ATB, LSD and locking differentials do not all need the same oil

The presence of an upgraded differential does not automatically mean conventional limited-slip oil is required. Plate-type LSDs can depend on specific friction characteristics, while ATB and locking differentials may have different requirements. The actual differential design and its manufacturer's oil specification remain more important than the vehicle model alone.

Dedicated 75W-90 and 80W-90 limited-slip oils

RHP is not intended to make dedicated LS oils redundant. Ravenol LS 75W-90 and LS 80W-90 provide specification-led lubricants for compatible limited-slip differentials requiring those viscosities and friction characteristics. The 75W-90 and 80W-90 split therefore remains mechanically useful rather than simply representing two different thicknesses of the same product.
