Critical Installation Fitment Note
Early 2.5L 300TDI diesel engines were fitted from the factory with a separate, loose backing washer behind the timing idler pulley. The upgraded INA idler pulley included in this kit features a precision-integrated spacer machined directly into the rear of the component body. When performing your timing job, you must verify the casing stud and discard the old loose factory washer. Leaving the old washer in place will misalign the pulley depth, throwing out the belt path and causing immediate tracking failures. In practice, while the vast majority of original factory idlers are long gone by now, it is always worth verifying this on the vehicle before fitting the new components.
Recommended Companion Components
Achieving a completely oil-tight reassembly requires replacing all critical high-torque fasteners that are removed during teardown. While this kit includes your primary front case seals, gasket, and housing studs, you should check your workshop inventory for the vital 300TDI crankshaft pulley bolt (ERR5087), the companion 300TDI crankshaft pulley O-ring (ERR4710), and the 300TDI front cover sealing washer (ERR2344) to finish the job correctly.
