TD5 Engine Oil Leak Gaskets & Seals
TD5 engine oil leak gaskets and seals for Defender and Discovery 2, covering the rocker cover, camshaft, crankshaft, sump, oil filter housing and oil cooler housing.
Identify the source of the leak before ordering, then match the seal or gasket to its position and original part number. Rocker cover gaskets split between early 10P/11P and later 15P/16P engines, while several crankshaft and sump seals are available in different brands or quality levels.

Find the right TD5 oil leak parts
Start with the area of the engine where fresh oil first appears. Oil can spread across the engine, run down the block or collect around the bellhousing, making the highest clean and visibly wet point more useful than the lowest oily area.
| Leak area | Parts in this section | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Rocker cover and top of engine | Early and late rocker cover gaskets, sealing grommets and rocker cover bolt kits | Early 10P/11P or later 15P/16P engine, gasket brand and whether the grommets or bolts are also being replaced |
| Front camshaft seal | Front camshaft oil seal and upgraded Viton camshaft seal-carrier O-ring | Confirm which sealing point is leaking; the oil seal and carrier O-ring are separate parts |
| Rear camshaft seal | Rear camshaft oil seal | Confirm the leak is from the camshaft sealing point rather than oil travelling down from higher on the engine |
| Front crankshaft seal | Front crankshaft oil seal | Seal position and original part number |
| Rear crankshaft seal | Genuine Land Rover, Corteco, Victor Reinz and selected replacement rear crankshaft seals | Brand or quality level and confirmation that the rear crankshaft seal is the source of the leak |
| Oil filter and cooler housing | Oil filter housing gasket and oil rotor filter housing or oil cooler O-ring | Exact housing joint and original gasket or O-ring reference |
| Engine sump | TD5 sump gaskets in selected replacement and Victor Reinz versions | Gasket brand and whether the leak is from the sump joint rather than oil running down from above |
Check the leak position before ordering
Early 10P/11P and later 15P/16P TD5 engines use different rocker cover gaskets. Match the engine type and original gasket before ordering.
The front camshaft oil seal and the O-ring sealing its plastic carrier are separate leak points and are sold as separate parts.
Front and rear crankshaft seals are completely different parts. Confirm the location and part number before ordering.
Oil around the sump or bellhousing may have travelled down from the rocker cover, camshaft seal or another joint higher on the engine.
Genuine, OEM and aftermarket TD5 oil seals
Several TD5 gaskets and oil seals are available in more than one brand or quality level. Individual product pages identify the manufacturer, Genuine or OEM status where confirmed, and the exact part number or engine split.
| Quality level | How it is shown on Twinwoods 4x4 |
|---|---|
| Genuine Land Rover | Factory-branded seals are identified as Genuine Land Rover on the individual product page. |
| OEM or OE-supplier | Corteco, Victor Reinz, Elring and other OE-supplier products are identified where that status is confirmed for the exact part. |
| Selected replacement | Aftermarket seals and gaskets are described by their part number, fitment and included components without unsupported quality claims. |
| Upgraded sealing parts | Upgraded components, such as the Viton front camshaft carrier O-ring, are identified separately from standard replacement seals. |
