Description
Td5 front camshaft oil seal replacement
LDI100030 is the front camshaft oil seal for Land Rover Td5 engines fitted to Defender and Discovery 2 models. It is used at the front camshaft seal position and is commonly replaced when oil is leaking from the front of the cylinder head area.
Replace the seal if oil is weeping from the front camshaft seal carrier, if the carrier is worn or distorted, or if the area has already been stripped for related repair work. If the plastic carrier is no longer sitting correctly, a fresh LDI100030 seal is the proper starting point.
For a better seal between the carrier and cylinder head, fit the Td5 front camshaft O-ring upgrade for LDI100030 at the same time. The upgraded Viton O-ring replaces the standard-style O-ring fitted to the carrier.
Do not fit clamps, retainers or other devices that forcibly hold the camshaft seal carrier in place. The Td5 front camshaft seal arrangement is designed to move outwards if crankcase pressure becomes excessive, helping protect the engine. If the seal is being pushed out repeatedly, investigate crankcase pressure rather than clamping the seal in place.
