This is our extended-stud and spacer kit built around top-quality M8 x 1.25 grade 8.8 part-threaded engineering studs, large-diameter 303 stainless spacers and copper-coated flanged all-metal prevailing-torque lock nuts. It is made for the common TD5 exhaust manifold problem where repeated heat cycles can loosen the manifold, reduce clamping and lead to warping and broken studs.

What makes this the “Ultimate” kit
Our kit is built around the extended-stud and spacer setup used on TD5 exhaust manifolds to help maintain consistent clamping through repeated heat cycles. It is especially relevant for tuned Defender TD5 and Discovery 2 TD5 engines, where exhaust heat and manifold movement can put more load through the original manifold fixings.
The kit was designed around the common TD5 manifold issues, not assembled as a generic bag of studs and nuts. The stud form, spacer design and nut choice all matter because the TD5 exhaust manifold is heat-cycled hard and known for moving as it expands and contracts.
Top-quality part-threaded engineering studs
The studs supplied are extended-length M8 x 1.25 grade 8.8 part-threaded engineering studs. They are not generic fully threaded studding or threaded rod cut to length.
That matters because the engineering stud is doing more than simply filling a threaded hole. The head-side thread gives controlled engagement into the cylinder head, while the plain shank passes through the manifold and spacer stack for a cleaner load path than fully threaded rod. The limited threaded section also helps prevent over-inserting the studs into the cylinder head.

Copper-coated flanged locking nuts for exhaust use
The kit uses copper-coated steel flanged prevailing-torque lock nuts in M8 x 1.25, selected for exhaust manifold duty. Earlier versions of the kit used stainless Aerotight nuts; the current kit uses copper-coated steel locking nuts as the better all-round choice on steel studs in long-term heat-cycled exhaust manifold use.

303 stainless spacers for the extended-stud setup
The Ultimate kit includes large-diameter precision-machined 303 stainless spacers. Their job is to support the extended-stud arrangement and help keep clamping more stable and even as the manifold expands and contracts.
These are not generic packing washers. They are part of the extended-stud setup and work with the part-threaded studs and flanged locking nuts to support the manifold fixing stack.
