75W-90 Gear Oil for MT82 and LT230

Ravenol VSG is our premium fully synthetic oil for the Defender Puma MT82 six-speed manual gearbox and a premium synthetic choice for the Land Rover LT230 transfer box. Excellent cold-flow behaviour, very high shear stability, strong EP performance and good compatibility with non-ferrous metals make it well suited to both drivetrain components.

One Oil, Several Drivetrain Uses

VSG is not an MT82-only gearbox oil. The same fully synthetic formulation is suitable for synchronised and non-synchronised gearboxes, transfer gearboxes and highly stressed axle drives. This gives VSG a genuine place in both Defender Puma MT82 servicing and premium LT230 servicing, as well as compatible open differential use.

Defender Puma MT82
VSG is specifically suitable for the MT82 six-speed manual gearbox and combines strong cold-shift behaviour with excellent shear stability.
Land Rover LT230
VSG provides the premium fully synthetic alternative to the traditional mineral 80W-90 oil used for LT230 servicing.
Open differentials
VSG is also suitable for highly stressed axle drives and hypoid differentials without a limited-slip system.
1L and 4L packs
The formulation is identical in both pack sizes. Use the pack size that best matches the service quantity required.

GL-4 and GL-5 Classification

Ravenol VSG meets both API GL-4 and API GL-5. These are performance classifications rather than labels that restrict the oil to one type of drivetrain component. VSG's suitability for the MT82, transfer gearboxes and compatible hypoid differentials comes from the complete lubricant formulation and its intended uses.

This is also why an LT230 should not be matched to an oil simply by looking for GL-4 on the bottle. Ravenol MZG 80W-90 remains our traditional mineral LT230 oil, while VSG 75W-90 provides the premium fully synthetic route.
