This heavy-duty exhaust manifold stud kit replaces the standard exhaust manifold fasteners on all Land Rover Defender and Discovery 2 TD5 engines. The kit uses high-tensile engineering studs paired with all-metal copper-coated locking nuts to secure the manifold under high thermal stress, resolving the common gas blowing issues caused by warped exhaust flanges.

What Is Included
This kit provides all the upgraded fasteners and secondary gaskets disturbed during a TD5 exhaust manifold replacement:
- 10 x Extended-length M8 grade 8.8 part-threaded engineering studs
- 10 x Copper-coated flanged all-metal locking nuts (M8 x 1.25)
- 1 x Turbo-to-manifold gasket
- 1 x Turbo-to-downpipe gasket
- 1 x Turbo oil drain gasket
- 2 x Turbo oil feed banjo washers
- 3 x M10 flanged nuts (turbo-to-downpipe fixing)
- 3 x M8 flanged nuts (turbo-to-manifold fixing)
Exhaust Manifold Studs
The supplied fasteners are part-threaded engineering studs rather than generic cut lengths of fully threaded bar. The plain unthreaded shank controls the manifold fixing stack during thermal expansion. The short threaded end seats into the aluminium cylinder head, while the longer threaded end extends through the manifold face. Unlike fully threaded alternatives, these engineering studs prevent over-insertion, which can puncture the back of the blind holes and breach the engine coolant gallery.
Copper-Coated Locking Nuts
The kit features copper-coated flanged steel locking nuts. These all-metal fasteners are engineered for heat-cycled exhaust joints, outperforming standard plain nuts or nylon-insert versions that degrade under high temperatures. The integrated flange distributes clamping force across the manifold fixing face. While early versions of this kit used stainless Aerotight nuts, these copper-coated steel locking nuts are the preferred choice for matching with steel studs.
Thermal Management & Manifold Selection
Sustained high exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs) will distort or crack an exhaust manifold if thermal loads run out of control. For tuned engines, heavy towing, or vehicles operating under constant load, installing an EGT gauge is recommended to monitor operating conditions. This heavy-duty stud kit provides the maximum clamping efficiency when paired with original cast-iron manifolds or high-quality, correctly engineered performance upgrades that are designed to handle high thermal stress.

Warranty cover applies to manufacturing defects.
